Inthespeech,LincolntalksaboutthesacrificesmadebythesoldierswhodiedinthebattleatGettysburg.Healsodiscussestheideaofa"newbirthoffreedom"forAmerica,whereallpeopleareequalandhavetherighttolibertyandjustice.Thespeechendswiththefamouslines,"thatthisnation,underGod,shallhaveanewbirthoffreedom—andthatgovernmentofthepeople,bythepeople,forthepeople,shallnotperishfromtheearth."
TheGettysburgAddressisaclassicexampleofpowerfulrhetoricthatcombinesemotionwithaclearcalltoaction.Itisareminderthatevenintimesofgreatsorrowandstrife,wecancometogetherasanationandworktowardsabetterfuture.
